Lt. John Graham

LT. JOHN GRAHAM

John dedicated his life to public service, first, as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1996-2000, and then as a Police Officer for the Hollywood Police Department for his last 20 years.

John attended the 208th Broward Police Academy and was a platoon leader for his class. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Union Institute in 2012, attended the Southern Police Institute in 2014, and received a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University. He had just started his first semester at Nova Southeastern Law School at the time of his passing.

John served for 15 years on the Hollywood Police SWAT team where he held the titles of Operator, Team Leader, Assistant Commander, Sniper, Explosive Breacher, and Rappel Master.

In 2013, John became Sergeant and was later promoted to Lieutenant in 2018. While holding rank of Lieutenant, he was assigned to the NTL Unit and the Training Unit.

John was recognized numerous times for his leadership at the Police Department. He received 24 letters from the community detailing his hard work, and 12 Supervisor Commendations, including a Unit Citation. John was Officer of the Month in December 2007.

With a passion for boxing, he joined the Florida State Boxing Commission in 2012, allowing him the opportunity to work with some of his all time favorite boxers. As any true Philadelphian, he was a fanatic of the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and of course Geno’s Cheesesteaks.

John’s smile was electrifying and he had the ability to light up a room. He will be missed by so many. His teachings and leadership have become his legacy and will live on with those he touched. Decorated and accomplished, he was loved by all that knew him.

“And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still drove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable
The unreachable star”
